TDA West End Performance 3rd November 2024 Information Sheet

 

We are very excited to be able to offer our students the opportunity to perform in the West End again this year. Students who attend Saturday Musical Theatre Classes, in school year 7 and above in September 2024 are invited to take part.

 

What is the event?

 

Take a Bow Productions have been running West End performance opportunities for many years now.  They book a West End theatre and then offer slots to dance and drama schools to perform.  Previously TDA  have performed at Her Majesty’s Theatre , Shaftesbury Theatre and found them to be very professional.  This year we will be performing at the Shaftesbury Theatre (where we first performed in 2016).  Each school is given two 6-minute slots to perform, one in the first half and one in the second half.  We will perform two 6-minute medleys from popular Musical Theatre shows.

 

Is there a charge to take part?

 

Class Talent do not charge performers to take part in the show but they obviously need to cover the high costs of hiring a west end theatre to be able to offer these opportunities as detailed below.

 

What will I have to pay?

 

• You will need to buy a souvenir t shirt at a cost of £15 which must be worn in the finale of the show.  The £15 must be paid immediately to secure your child’s place.

• You have to agree to purchase 3 tickets (minimum) to watch your child perform.  If you have two siblings performing you have to purchase 4 tickets in total.  Once the deposits have been paid you will be issued with a code to buy your tickets direct from The Shaftesbury Theatre Box office.  Ticket prices issued by Class Talent (not including any booking fees or restoration levy added on by the theatre) are; £37.50, £39.50, £42.50 (there may also be some restricted view seats at £20).  We have been informed that no children under the age of 4 are allowed in the Theatre.

• We will need costumes for the show.  As always, we will try to keep costs to a minimum.  To give you an idea, in 2019 students were required to hire a costume at a cost of £20 for one medley and provide their own clothes for the second medley.  Plain black bottoms and shoes are required for the finale.

• If for any reason your child withdraws from the performance you will still be required to purchase your 3 tickets.  No refunds will be given by Class Talent.

 

Rehearsals

 

The majority of the learning will take place in normal Saturday Musical Theatre lessons.  Please note that there will be at least one rehearsal that ALL students must attend to take part.  We have scheduled this for Saturday 29th October 1.30-4.30pm.

 

On the day

 

This is a whole day commitment.  We arrive at the theatre around 11:45am for a rehearsal then the performance begins at 6:30pm (approximately finish time of 9:00pm).  At the moment we have not been advised if students will stay on site during the break between rehearsal and performance or not.  We will let you know this.  We will endeavour to keep students under our supervision for the duration of the day unless we are informed otherwise.

 

Coach Places

 

As in previous years we will be hiring coaches for those who would like to join us.  The coach will leave pathways at around 8.30am and return at around Midnight.  You may book coach places for just the student performer or those watching as well.

 

I haven’t approached coach companies yet as I need to know the number of places required first, but the price per head in 2019 was £22 return.  Please indicate on the sign-up form if you would like places on the coach. Please consider this carefully first as I need accurate numbers to approach coach companies for prices.

 

We are limited to the number of places we can have for this performance and therefore they will be available on a first come first served basis.  You must submit the form AND pay your £15 deposit immediately to secure your place.  This should be paid to the TDA account and we will transfer the amounts to Class Talent for you.
